Privacy statement Acceleration Plan

The Acceleration Plan values the privacy of affiliated institutions and visitors of the website. If we request your personal data, we will handle them with care. We adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation. You can read all about this in this privacy statement. SURF is trustee of the Acceleration Plan, which is why SURF is referred to in a number of sections of this statement and the Acceleration Plan in a number of other sections.

How do we handle your data?

If the Acceleration Plan requests and processes your personal data, then your privacy is paramount. That means that, among other things:

  • We clearly state the purposes for which we process your personal data. We do this through this privacy statement.
  • We only request personal data that is necessary for legitimate purposes.
  • We properly protect your personal data, and also demand this from parties that process your personal data at our request.
  • You can always view, correct or delete your personal data.

Security measures

To protect your personal data, amongst other things, we have taken the following security measures:

  • Our system is only accessible from the SURF network and via a secure VPN connection.
  • We use secure connections (HTTPS) to ensure the safety of data transfers.
  • We take organisational and physical access measures.


Contact through email

If you contact us by email for questions or support, the Acceleration Plan can process the following data from you:

  • name
  • email address
  • any other personal data that you send us in the email

Why do we request this information?

The processing of this data is necessary for answering and handling your question (legal basis for this processing: your permission). By emailing us, you consent to the processing of your data.

How long do we store this information?

When you contact us through email, we will store your data for as long as this is required, based on the content of the email, for the complete answering and handling of your email and for any follow-up questions.


Registering for events

If you register for an event through our website, we will request the following personal data:

  • first and last name (required field)
  • email address (required field)
  • organisation (required field)
  • sector in which you work
  • position
  • payment details
  • dietary preferences
  • any other information that you enter voluntarily

Why do we request this information?

We need your data to process your registration (legal basis for processing: execution of agreement). In addition, we can conduct (statistical) research based on this data in order to improve our services (legal basis for processing: legitimate interest in SURF).

How long do we store this information?

The Acceleration Plan can use your data up to 18 months after the event to conduct research. This research is aimed at improving the events that we organise. SURF pseudonymises the data for this research, so that it is no longer directly traceable to individuals. SURF will remove your name and email address for this. After 18 months your data will be completely anonymized, as a result of which it will no longer be traceable, either directly or indirectly. SURF can then only use the anonymized data for statistical research.


Newsletter subscription

When you sign up for our online newsletter, we request the following personal information:

  • email address

Every newsletter contains a link at the bottom that you can use to unsubscribe.

Why do we request this information?

We need your data to process your registration (legal basis for processing: execution of agreement).

How long do we store this information?

We store your emailaddress untill you unsubscribe from the newsletter.


Web forms

You can fill out forms for various purposes on our website. For example, you can sign up as speaker for an event or fill out a feedback form. If you complete a web form, the Acceleration Plan can request the following information from you:

  • first and last name
  • address
  • email address
  • phone number
  • area of ‚Äč‚Äčinterest
  • organisation
  • sector in which you work
  • position
  • any other information that you enter voluntarily

Why do we request this information?

We need your data to process your registration or question (legal basis for processing: execution of agreement).

How long do we store this information?

We save your data for up to 1 month after your question or registration has been fully processed, in order to answer any subsequent questions.

To whom do we provide your information?

We only share the information you provide with third parties if this is necessary to be able to provide the service in question.

Furthermore, we only provide your information to other parties after your permission, unless it is legally required or permitted to provide your data. For example, the police can request data from us in the context of a fraud investigation. The Acceleration Plan is then legally obliged to provide this information.

What rights do you have regarding your data?

We process your personal data, so you can determine what happens to it. You can contact the Acceleration Plan for this, see the contact details at the bottom of this page. What exactly can you do with the information provided to us?

  • You can request to view the data that we process about you.
  • You can request us to change, supplement or delete your data if it is incorrect or no longer relevant.
  • You can request to limit the processing of your data.
  • You can request a digital overview of the data that we process about you and you have the right to transfer this data to another service provider.
  • You can withdraw the permission to process your personal data, for example by unsubscribing from our newsletter. Please note: the processing of your personal data before the withdrawal of your consent remains legitimate.

If you think that the Acceleration Plan does not handle your personal data properly, you can submit a complaint with the Acceleration Plan. If you and the Acceleration Plan cannot work this out together, you can submit a complaint about the Acceleration Plan to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Right of objection

In addition to the rights mentioned above, you can also object to data processing that takes place on the grounds of the legitimate interest of the Acceleration Plan or a third party. This is possible for reasons related to your specific situation. Objections can be made via the contact details at the bottom of this privacy statement.

Please note: exceptions apply. Be aware that the Acceleration Plan can no longer control materials (for example videos) after they have been published online on channels other than its own website. In addition, we can use visual material in a retrospective video of an event or in a printed newspaper. In these cases too, the Acceleration Plan cannot remove the visual material after publication. Naturally, the Acceleration Plan selects the visual material used for this purpose with the greatest possible care.

Third party websites

This privacy statement does not apply to third party websites that we link to on our website. The Acceleration Plan cannot guarantee that these third parties will handle your personal data in a reliable or safe manner. We recommend that you read the privacy statement(s) of these website(s) before using them.

Change of privacy statement

The Acceleration Plan can make changes to this privacy statement. We therefore recommend that you regularly consult this privacy statement.
